Leawood-based Broker Source named Salvatore “Torre” Nigro[6] as its new president.

Nigro succeeds Mary Amundsen[7], who remains CEO of the company. Nigro will lead the day-to-day operations and work with Amundsen on business strategy.

“We are so fortunate that Torre has joined Broker Source in a key management and leadership role,” Amundsen said in a release. “Broker Source intends to expand its product and service offerings to allow independent brokers to maintain their competitive position in an era of health care reform. Torre’s expertise in small group and consumer markets along with his personal relationship with hundreds of brokers is a formula for success.”

Amundsen also works as managing director at Bukaty[8] Cos., a separate company owned by Mike Bukaty[9], who also owns Broker Source.

Nigro previously was president of Cobalt Ventures, a for-profit subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. He’s a lifelong Kansas City resident with a business management degree from Rockhurst University[10] and an MBA from Rockhurst’s Executive Fellowship Program.

Nigro started his new job about two weeks ago.

“Health care reform will change the way our industry does business,” Nigro said in the release. “We intend to offer our brokers the technology platforms and decision-making tools their clients will need when purchasing health insurance. Coupled with other products and services we have available through Broker Source, we can ensure the independent broker is a strong competitor in 2014 and beyond.”

James reports about banking, financial services, manufacturing and sports business.
