Austin-based AmeriCatalyst LLC is sponsoring a three-day event that will draw an impressive array of national experts to the ACL Live at the Moody Theater.

I never would have known about it, save for a national real estate heavyweight mentioning in an email that he would be in town as a panelist. In fact, I confess that I’ve never heard of AmeriCatalyst before today.

But the event — actually it’s two consecutive events which begin Sept. 8 — caught my eye, given the participants and the issues addressed.

The first program is “Tightrope Rebalancing Housing Finance.” Speakers include Sean Dobson[5], CEO of Amherst Holdings, a financial services company based in Austin that keeps a low profile; Mark Fleming[6], chief economist for CoreLogic[7] Inc.; Jake Seid[8], president of Auction.com; Jed Kolko[9], chief economist for Trulia; and Pat McEnerney[10], managing director for Deutsche Bank[11], to name a few.

The second program is “Renting, the future.” Speakers include Nav Athwal[12], CEO of RealtyShares, and Jilliene Helman[13], CEO of Realty Mogul, two crowdfunding companies that are garnering national attention. Institutional investors, mortgage companies, homebuilders, housing consultants and mortgage originators also are well represented.

The breakout sessions appear to be pretty content rich.

“Blind Spot: Income Inequality, the Erosion of the Middle Class and its Impact on the Housing Market,” is one of the first presentations. Other intriguing sessions include “Rumor has it: The State of Single-Family Rental and What Happens Next” and “Leveling the Playing Field: How Small to Mid-Tier Investors are Changing the Game.”

Jan Buchholz covers commercial and residential real estate, construction and architecture and retail and restaurants for the Austin Business Journal.
