Chipotle fans don't have to be burrito-less the morning of Feb. 8, when stores will close temporarily for an all-staff meeting on food safety.

That's because fellow fast-casual chain Freshii wasted no time taking advantage of Chipotle's recent health scare woes, and plans to lure fans Feb. 8 with its own Mexican-inspired menu.

At half off.

Chipotle has had a bummer of a few months. Its restaurants have been the site of multiple health scares – E.coli and norovirus – and customers started saying ‘thanks, but no thanks’[1] to the chain’s popular rice bowls and hefty burritos.

Freshii serves an array of fresh salads, wraps, burritos and juices. The company started in Canada in 2005 and now has more than 200 locations around the world. Though that pales in comparison to Chipotle’s more than 1,900 restaurants.

The discounted menu includes a variety of Mexican food, such as a Tex Mex burrito and ranchero breakfast burrito. Freshii, arguably a lesser-known chain, is hoping to gain a few new customers in the process. Chipotle did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Talking up the promotion, CEO Matthew Corrin managed to compliment Chipotle and poked fun at the former fast-casual darling at the same time. “We at Freshii are big fans of Chipotle,” he said in a statement. “We figured the least we could do was look after their customers while Chipotle pauses to recalibrate."

How nice of you, Freshii.
